How pet age is converted
The old "1 dog year = 7 human years" rule doesn't reflect how pets actually age — the first two years bring rapid development (a 1-year-old dog or cat is roughly equivalent to a 15-year-old human), and aging slows considerably after that. Dog conversion tables are size-adjusted since larger breeds age faster and have shorter lifespans than smaller breeds.
