How this is calculated

Starting from your chronological age, each lifestyle factor you enter adds or subtracts years based on ranges from published biomarker and cohort-aging research — exercise, sleep, BMI, smoking, diet quality, stress, and alcohol consumption. The factor breakdown shows exactly how much each input contributed, and the top-3 list highlights where to focus first.

Using this calculator's defaults — a 40-year-old with 150 minutes/week of exercise, 7 hours of sleep, a BMI of 24, non-smoker, good diet, medium stress, and 5 alcohol units/week — most of the individual factor adjustments land close to neutral, since these defaults sit near the middle of most published reference ranges. Moving any single factor to its higher-risk end (e.g. becoming a smoker, or BMI rising into the obese range) typically produces the largest single swing in the estimate. What is biological age?

Can biological age be reversed?
This estimate is based on modifiable lifestyle factors, so improving those factors (quitting smoking, exercising more, improving diet, reducing alcohol) would lower the estimated biological age in this model. Whether biological aging itself is reversible in a deeper physiological sense is an active area of scientific research beyond what a lifestyle-factor calculator can capture.
How does biological age relate to life expectancy?
The lifestyle factors that drive this biological age estimate are the same ones that drive the lifestyle-adjustment model in the Longevity Estimator — a lower biological age relative to chronological age generally corresponds to a higher estimated life expectancy in that companion tool.
