How this is calculated

Your age is compared against a modelled global age pyramid to estimate your percentile and headcount at that age, then projected forward 10 and 20 years using survival ratios from a modelled global mortality curve. The world's age pyramid is far from symmetric — it skews young, with a large base of children and young adults in developing regions — so the same age can sit at a noticeably different percentile globally than it would within an individual older, slower-growing country.

For example, a 30-year-old typically sits somewhere in the upper half of the global age distribution, since the world's median age is still in the low-to-mid 30s and a large share of the global population is younger due to higher birth rates in fast-growing regions.
