This tool returns the official national public holidays for any supported country in a given year. It is useful for travel planning, payroll and HR calculations, scheduling international meetings, or building holiday-aware date logic into your own software. The data covers over 100 countries and is sourced from Nager.Date, a community-maintained public holiday registry that tracks national statutory holidays as gazetted by each country's government.
The number of public holidays varies significantly between countries. The United States has 11 federal holidays; the United Kingdom observes 8 bank holidays in England and Wales (with Scotland and Northern Ireland having different dates); India has 3 national holidays with states each adding their own; Japan has 16 national holidays — one of the highest counts globally. The calculator shows only national public holidays. Regional, state-level, or religious observances that are not statutory national holidays may not be included for every country.
For 2026 date planning: most countries' 2026 public holiday dates are already published and confirmed. Where a holiday falls on a weekend, many countries observe a substitute weekday — the calculator reflects these substitution rules where Nager.Date records them.
